James Cameron’s Avatar movie series distributes profits from the creative work to fund science and engineering.
Cameron funds a massive deep sea exploration research laboratory, sharing his research with some of the preeminent institutions in the world. James Cameron is a filmmaker to most, yet to a smaller set of ocean researchers, he is a pioneer of deep sea exploration.
What funds all of that research are movie tickets and licensing revenue royalty streams from Avatar.
This is a precedent; arts funding engineering. Who is going to invest in deep sea exploration to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, just to learn about fish? A movie millions of people adore.
What we are seeing in a roundabout way is a huge team of artists and creators who create copyright in the form of screenplays, character designs, world building and acting who then sell movie tickets to fans who wind up funding the advancement of science through deep sea exploration and design to the tune of billions of dollars.
What if all movie studios, any type of creator studio, was set up the same way?
Imagine Elon Musk building his Mars mission from ticket sales from a film about the Mars mission.
Imagine that the first one million ticket holders were actually awarded a sliver of the copyright of the movie, enabling them to receive revenue streams, and then imagine the rocket company awarding that same community back with something like an equity position within the company.
The New Studio
This is how the New Studio works. The New Studio is built upon decentralized systems that “do more with less”, ephemeralization, meaning that The New Studio does not need to receive funding from a centralized distributor (like a big film company) nor do any of its projects need any funding from Wall Street.
The only thing the New Studio needs is a community of artists, designers, and engineers and a community or marketplace that all share a purpose in common.
If a community has all of those things, then it can form a $141M studio system with an ecosystem of startup technology companies that can grow into a billion dollars of equity value or more, starting with a budget of $0.
The New Studio is not a formal company, it is just comprised of a decentralized network of individuals, startups, nonprofits who all connect to a DAO structure with a digital wallet. From here, an entire studio system can emerge, all built upon web3 technologies.
Creators of copyright only need one thing, an audience.
The audience is the most powerful of all marketplace forces.
So the New Studio simply works with the audience in such a way that it removes the requirement for any other party, including big tech, big finance, big media. The audience is the co-owner, even co-creator.
Allowing this is are web3 innovations in DAO structures, digital wallets, and smart contracts.
That is the only structure that is necessary to build, launch, even scale a large studio system that redirects profits towards a purpose, a purpose that is expressed by the community of the artists and supported by engineers, designers and the full value of the combined community equities and assets.
